Truth be told, I don't really care for any of those definitions when they are referring to action on my part. You see, I'm an oldest child (oldest daughter at that), and a wife and mom. I've managed multi-million dollar budgets and supervised a large staff of employees. I'm a tough cookie. Spine of steel, tough as nails. So you see, surrender isn't part of my usual vocabulary.
But that's what God wants from us. Complete and absolute surrender--not only of our minds and hearts and souls, but of our wills; even our very lives. He wants every aspect of our life -- all of it!
The speaker at our church's Lenten Dinner this past week talked about the power in surrender. Knowing the health issues she's struggled with over the past 8 years that have forced her to give up doing many of the things she loves -- all of which involve ministering to others -- to hear her speak of surrender certainly caught my attention. But that is what she did. And it has made her so much stronger and so much more able to accept her circumstances.
This is what I read at gospel.com:
Let God shine His holy light on the dark corners of you that you've never let Him touch. And tear up thatcontract you want God to sign; the one with all the ways you've wanted things to be. Give Him a blank piece of paper, pre-signed by you to do whatever He writes on it. You're at the end of your power and at the beginning of His. Surrendering is the way to winning, and powerlessness is the most powerful position in the world.
I pray you will begin to surrender your life to Christ, the one who is our power, our strength, our hope and our Savior.
"It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect" (2 Samuel 22:33 NIV).
"Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always" (1 Chronicles 16:11 NIV).
"Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage" (Psalm 84:5 NIV).
